Balm Life Now
This week at the Listening World we’re celebrating the release of speller Wyatt Dutton’s album Balm Life Now, which is currently available on all streaming platforms. (Wyatt asked me to write up a little introduction for him here, and I was of course honored to oblige.)
Wyatt is a poet and songwriter whose work manages to be simultaneously hard-hitting and tender, fierce in its emotions yet delicate in its turn of phrase. In this he resembles two of his biggest musical influences – Gregory Alan Isakov and Bruce Springsteen – but Wyatt’s lyrics have a dreamy sensitivity to image and logic that’s all his own. It was a joy and a pleasure to get to give melody to his words, following his wise, intuitive suggestions for the musical arrangements of each song.
The resulting album is a moving debut from a songwriter who, we can all be sure, has many more songs and poems already simmering inside. You can read Wyatt’s blog here, and can check him out as the featured artist at this week’s Neurolyrical Café by registering here. And lastly, here’s what Wyatt himself has to say about the record:
I want to share this album Balm Life Now with all of you.
I wrote these songs to help me work out so many feelings and I think so many of us feel this way too.
I wanted us to have songs to listen when life gets hard and that would help us to remember loving hope.
I hope to have this album reach all your souls and love a balm life now for each of us.
Thanks for Listening,
Wyatt and Brian
