By way of introduction to his ravishing poem, Mark Eati writes: “I am lately learning to practice communication in group settings.”

Learning to Dance Without a Raincoat

Springing into reality

Jesus in my heart

Craziness all around

Some raindrops hugging me

Some piercing my brain

When did my raincoat fall off?

Hiding under a tree

A tree full of ideas

On how to protect myself

The kittens keep distracting me

A bird drenching in the rain

Caught my attention

It’s a vulture covered in eagle feathers

Promised to teach me how to fly

Like a leader

I took a deep breath and said

No thank you

It landed on Mom’s shoulder

Max warned the bird not to mess around

Molly left the bird to drench in the rain

Amen
