The Choreic Period
Yesterday, we were thrilled to celebrate alongside Latif Askia Ba, a Brooklyn-based writer with Choreic Cerebral Palsy, whose book The Choreic Period won the 2026 Firecracker Award in Poetry!
In his acceptance speech, Latif acknowledged what a rare honor it was for a disabled author to win the award and how he hoped it would shine a light on all the other brilliant disabled writers out there awaiting recognition. We couldn’t agree more.
