This week’s poem comes from nonspeaking autistic writer Graciela Lotharius. She writes: “There are no words here that I can say to make this better, but I need to get some time to work on my feelings and begin to speak up more for what I see as true. There are so many people who really live with their idea of truth and much different than mine. I want to believe this is the end of many bad years of lies and much division, but I am feeling let down by people in our country. This is life and having hope is the only way forward.”
too much in jeopardy
justice is coming towards us
finding the life inside our minds
that have been destroyed
by the news of the support
for a liar, a monster, and a maker
of money off the backs
of those who said yes
to his timely rhetoric
having hope in the future
is so much harder to do
now that we live in fear
I have to stand my ground
get working and find my strength
and change what I can around me
using my frustration to sew hope
hope is only four letters
but it lets me survive my sorrow
Graciela this is so profound. Would you mind if I shared it on social media, giving you full credit?
You did a great job, Graciela - I feel very much the same as you do - Thank you for being such a strong an d determined young lady, and for using your voice to speak up for those who, for whatever reason, cannot speak up for themselves.
