True Friends

This week’s poem is a testament to friendship, written collaboratively by nonspeaking poets (and devoted advocates) Nico Segrera and Graciela Lotharius.

True Friends


Atop of the mountain where friendships await 
the universe bringing us together to create a bond 
so tight it can’t easily be broken down 
when souls are meant to be 
we will always find our way through the trees

It was a fateful day that gave us our start 
to our many days of friendship and connection 
I have been so blessed by this meeting 
of the minds atop that mountain 
our lives were meant to be woven 
in a tapestry of community 
and safe lifelong connection 

Connection indeed 
chemistry too 
so real and true 
forging beautiful friendships 
that will forever last 
a life of fullness 
a world of laughter and joy 
this friendship is what we needed 
happily ever after 

I have in my heart 
our connection and care 
for making this world of ours 
a more fulfilling place to be 
for those of us on the margins 
who really work to challenge 
what is the true meaning of normal 
and what is without a doubt 
the true beauty in life

Unseen forces guiding us together 
beauty and magic 
meaning fulfilled the desire 
to unite our souls 
with fire, light, and love 
when I see G 
she has been a real friend for me 
friendship is important 
our power aligned
